Concussion Physiotherapy

What is a concussion?

A concussion, also referred to as a mild traumatic brain injury, occurs after an impact to the head or body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.

For many individuals, post-concussion symptoms occur within the first 7 to 10 days and resolve completely within 2 to 4 weeks of the date of the initial injury.

That being said, others may experience longer lasting symptoms, which may be a result of post concussion syndrome.

What is post-concussion syndrome?

Post-concussion syndrome is a complex disorder in which symptoms of a mild traumatic brain injury last longer than expected after an injury, resulting in prolonged concussion recovery.

Symptoms of post-concussion syndrome

Symptoms of post-concussion syndrome can resemble symptoms of a concussion, which include:
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Memory loss and/or difficulty concentrating
  • Blurry visions and/or ringing in ears
  • Sensitivity to noise and/or light

Post-concussion physiotherapy

Post-concussion physiotherapy seeks to identify the underlying problems and triggers that linger following the initial concussion. In order to improve your concussion recovery process, our physiotherapist will design personalized treatments and a home exercise program. This will slowly stimulate your brain to adapt and heal in order to decrease and eventually eliminate any remaining post-concussion symptoms.
