Concussion Physiotherapy

What is a concussion?

A concussion, also referred to as a mild traumatic brain injury, occurs after an impact to the head or body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.

For many individuals, post-concussion symptoms may appear within the first 7 to 10 days and often improve over 2 to 4 weeks from the initial injury.

That being said, some people may continue to experience symptoms for longer periods of time, which can be described as post-concussion syndrome.

What is post-concussion syndrome?

Post-concussion syndrome is a condition where symptoms of a mild traumatic brain injury can last longer than expected after an injury, sometimes leading to a longer recovery process.

Common symptoms may include:

Symptoms of post-concussion syndrome can resemble symptoms of a concussion, which include:
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • ​Fatigue
  • Memory loss and/or difficulty concentrating ​​
  • Blurry visions and/or ringing in ears
  • Sensitivity to noise and/or light

Post-concussion physiotherapy

Post-concussion physiotherapy aims to support individuals in managing lingering symptoms following the initial concussion. Our physiotherapists can provide personalized treatment plans and home exercise programs that may help stimulate recovery and improve daily function.
